Music I'm Listening To:

"Jen is Bringin the Drugs" - Margot and the Nuclear So and So's

"Gravity"- Nico Vega

"Science Fiction"- Everclear

"L'amitie"- Francoise Hardy

"Heaven's on Fire" - The Radio Dept.

"Straight Lines" - Dawn Landes

I've been listening to Phantom Planet's version of "Our House" on repeat and fawning over cute wedding blogs...this one made me smile, because what better way to have your friends and family sign the wedding guestbook than on a vintage typewriter? (which I happen to own!)

Does this make me pathetic, or just awesome?

Tweets about food from famous people - I love.

I decided to bake pizza tonight, and ended up having an emotional meltdown in the kitchen.

On Saturday Jessica and I sat outside on her balcony, reading obscure fashion magazines and listening to her new blue Monster of Folk album. I tend to use my camera a lot when I hang around with Jess. I love that she is one of those people that always ignores that its there, so I can take a photo of her and it always seems natural and candid, which is awesome for the photographer trying to capture a cool moment. She showed me all of her latest sketches for the clothing line she is designing for a design concepts class. She is such a great artist and I want all of her sketches to materialize in my closet right now.

Currently listening to: "I Think It's Gonna Rain Today" - Dusty Springfield

me and my stuff.

I'm leaving Philadelphia in a few weeks. I've started packing up the room that I've occupied for the past two years and its sad to realize how easily you can erase the fact that you ever belonged somewhere. I've slowly untaped pictures from the walls and removed clothes from the closet hangers and packed books in boxes. With every item I seal beneath cardboard and tape I feel a piece of myself leaving this place. Most people might not feel such an attachment to a room, but I'm always unnerved by change. It's difficult for me to float; I need a solid base from which to go out into the world from, and to come back to. For now, I guess my next landing spot will remain a mystery until I return from my travels.

Another thing that came to my attention while packing -not that I didn't understand this about myself before, I was just reminded- is that I'm a complete hoarder. Not in the normal way where people save old stuffed animals and CD's.
I collect gas station receipts. Tags from clothes I bought six years ago.
Candles that have no wick left, just old circles of dusty wax.
I know, its unnecessary. However, while I probably should have thrown all of those things out, this whole packing-up-my-life thing made me realize how so many of those random odds and ends were saved for particular, significant reasons. Like, who ever knew that saving a tag from a dress I bought in high school would bring back the memory of my friend Julie and I blasting Mariah Carey songs on our way to the Exton mall- and the feeling that accompanied the person I was then? I wasn't who I am now, and I love that it made me remember how things change.
Anyway, the point is I save everything. It may seem pointless, but to me my things aren't about their intrinsic value, rather they carry a meaning beyond that, of the time and place when they first belonged to me.
One day, I'll have a real place of my own where all of this "stuff" can actually have a permanent home. I'll plaster my walls with every birthday card, magazine cutout, framed photo, and hand written note I've ever gotten, next to all of my gas station receipts (I'm considering framing them, just to be weird).

Being in the South makes everything better. I'm convinced of this because my adorable sisters just sent me these snapshots of their fun day. Yummy vegan hot dogs and flower shopping, what could be better? OH yeah, living in Tennessee where the sun likes to shine all the time and country music reigns supreme.

p.s. I think Dominique should be a foodie photog :)

lazy friday.
woke up at 10am
painted my nails pink
ate a banana
drank chai in the sun with people i love
read a book
listened to Dominique's song
thought about where i'll be on May 23rd, 2011.

I love Emma Hardy's photography. Her work seems so personal, like we are being let in to a private, organic moment. Every picture leaves me wanting to know more. I think its rare to uncover such compositionally elegant portraits with such rugged personality to them.

p.s. my favorite is the swimming little girl.
