Rushmore.

Another great Wes Anderson film...except better. I loved it. And the soundtrack. Every song is better than the last. Listen to The Faces "Ooh La La".

The New Yorker Fiction and Poetry

My species never flew,

But I somehow know

It is something that long ago

I almost adapted to.

Generationals debut Con Law is a must have album. They've got the kind of sound that makes me want dance around my room, and that doesn't happen alot. They bring back a whole slew of musical styles from decades past and have beautifully conjured up a host of contagious melodies that will get stuck in your head for days.
Check out their video for "Angry Charlie" here.

My College Needs a Fashion Blog...

Scott 'The Sartorialist' Shuman...Fashion Photographer Extraordinaire

So I have this idea...to start a Style Spotter blog for my college campus. The majority of students here are fashion and design majors so most of the time walking around campus is like flipping through the pages of Teen Vogue or Nylon. I thought it might be neat to start bringing my camera around with me and taking photos of people that are wearing cool outfits or just something unique that catches the eye. Then students can log onto blogspot.com/philaustyle or something along those lines and check out pictures and interviews of other student's (or their own) style. If it gets a good response I'll keep it up. If not, at least I'll have an excuse for a couple weeks to practice my fashion photography.

I got inspiration for the whole idea from Fashionistas Streetwalker
and Teen Vogue's Snapshot or of course, the most famous, Sartorialist.

The Disappearing Face of New York...and America.

This new book by Karla and James Murray is a collection of photographs of New York mom and pop storefronts that they spent over 10 years searching for and taking pictures of. The result is a beautiful array of images that convey the heart and soul of the beginnings of American life and the small shops that were built by families that have begun to slowly fall out of existence.

this blog always makes me smile...

comfy and cozy for fall...

and isn't this photo just gorgeous?

goodbye summer.

After sitting through 4 1/2 hours of classes today I can officially say that summer is over.
And since I haven't been putting my camera to much use lately I was inspired by some photos I found on different blogs that seem to capture the true beauty of summertime.

glass trinket heaven

Being such the compulsive collector of 'things' that I am, I can't stop daydreaming about amassing a beautiful set of delicately painted glass elephants and vases like these below. They are antiques that never go out of style!

new music

If you love acoustic guitar you will really love James Blackshaw. Read the piece that RCRD LBL wrote about him here.

Urban Outfitters now sells turntables and LP's (for high prices, but good quality). I got an M.Ward record for $9.95 and was tempted to stock up on some Van Morrison, Camera Obscura, St. Vincent, and Dan Deacon Bromst but they were $20 each. I'm used to buying them for $1 on the street in NYC. I'm now listening to the record on my recently purchased Crosley record player (Target!) and enjoying the steamy Pennsylvania weather. Classes start tomorrow so relaxation is a key factor today...

Magic Garden

This is one of the coolest places to visit in Philadelphia. Here are some of the photos I took of Isaiah Zagar's beautiful mosaic garden in the heart of South Street:
