Feeling like...

I need a vacation. I've been tempted to throw some things in a suitcase and just start driving. I'm stressed and anxious (two things I'm very good at) and can't seem to sleep at night or stay awake during the day. Ugh. Am I the only one?

I drove up to Manhattan to see family this weekend. Not only is New York City the most breathtaking in the autumn months, it is also the absolute perfect time for bike riding.
I went for a bike ride on Saturday. I rode across town to the East Side to catch a glimpse of the aftermath of the commotion surrounding the protest of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's September 23rd speech to the United Nations.

There were several small groups of people converged in conversations on the sidewalks leading up to the U.N. and the streets were lined with police officers, but for the most part the atmosphere was calm. I rode past them, observing the women in full-length chador and headscarves and the men in business suits.
There was a feeling of despondence amongst those remaining on the scene. An elderly man stood crying while his grown son held him in consolation. Several Iranian men and women were standing around as if waiting for something to happen. There were several protesters that had barricaded themselves behind guard rails with posters, guitars, and a video camera. They started chanting right as I passed, so I stopped to read the signs and hear what they had to say. Their signs displayed markered messages like a "Democratic Federal Republic Forever" and "New York Students & Youth for Peace, Justice and Unity".
Further down the street I came across two men sitting on blankets behind a metal guardrail barricade surrounded by signs and posters of a woman's face. They were on a hunger strike for 9 days to protest the imprisonment of Burma's leading pro-democracy campaigner and leader of the National League for Democracy (NLD) party, Aung San Suu Kyi.

  • Read one protesters diary during a trip to the U.N. last week.
  • Learn about Aung San Suu Kyi and her noble lifelong commitment to her cause.
On a lighter note, I visited a Michael Jackson cult in Brooklyn and walked along Manhattan's Highline. Below are some of the photos I took during my weekend:

It's Friday!

Have a splendid weekend kids!
Do something outside. Laugh. Listen to great music. Sleep in. Read. Drink hot tea.
Play an instrument. Call an old friend. Watch a sad movie. Watch a happy movie. Eat pancakes (or granola and yogurt). Send a postcard. Visit your favorite park bench. Smile. Take a photo of a complete stranger.
(If you don't like my suggestions make up your own, but make it a good one.)

Ciao for now :)

Mod Cloth madness.

I am swooning over all of these Modcloth coats! My wallet is already a lot thinner just gazing at these sweet and sophisticated styles that are must-haves for Fall and Winter.
