Asked to construct a wearable solution for a hypothetical post-disaster situation in a metropolitan area, three students from Philadelphia's University of the Arts came up with the"Wearable Shelter". The concept is meant to provide warmth and protection from the elements as eco-chic apparel while also transforming into a liveable protective space.
"Their solution: three durable, watertight, and wind-resistant garments that are lightweight enough for everyday wear yet easily convertible into tents or sleeping bags that can brave the elements. Constructed from repurposed thrift-store sleeping bags, exercise clothing, and performance jackets, the “Wearable Shelter” pieces act as protective all-weather gear in the day and insulating shelter at night." - Ecouterre magazine

Friends...
It is Fall break...meaning I am free to do whatever I want with myself tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday. Sunday is the 21st birthday of one of my best friends, Rhiannon, and we are going out to celebrate at Cafe Spice for dinner in the city and then out to Cuba Libre. I thought I would leave you with some sweet stuff until my next post.
this barrette is so delicately feminine...
I'm tempted to recreate this at my next Sunday morning pancake feast...
I was blown away by these images in W's Art Issue 2009 featuring supermodel Linda Evangelista photographed by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan. For the rest of the story click here.
Two female singers are taking over my iPod today, both with unique singing styles and honest lyrics. Lissie is an Illinois born folk/alternative singer with a barefoot and breathy nature, while Ida Maria thrashes through her songs "Oh My God" and "Stella" with the throaty rasp of a natural born rocker. Love them both :)
An old friend recently came out with a handmade jewelry collection for her senior thesis at Parson's School of Design in NYC. I saw her pieces and fell completely in love. The necklaces are versatile and timeless, mixing rugged and chic elements (lace and gold chains is always a go) and the bracelets range from colorful twisted rope to chunky brocaded beading and fabric. Please go to her websitebriannafano.com and spend a legitimate amount of time swooning.
